
Ian Kim

Ian Kim is a 16-year-old Korean-American filmmaker, photographer, and visual artist and a junior at the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, California, USA. For 5 years, he worked closely with peers and Holocaust survivors at the Righteous Conversations Project in Los Angeles, where he co-directed four award-winning short animated documentaries on the lives of child survivors of the Holocaust. The films went on to win numerous awards worldwide, including at NFFTY, Indy Shorts, and the American Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival. As a sophomore, he was selected as a YoungArts finalist for his photography series “Grandmother” about Korean American identity and assimilation, and is currently exhibited at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles for his work in photography. His current short film project, "My Sisters In The Stars: The Story of Lee Yong-soo," uses stop-motion animation to tell the life story of one of the 11 remaining known survivors in Korea of the Japanese World War II-era "Comfort Women" system of sexual slavery, and is set to be released in 2023.
